Diabetes (or diabetes mellitus) is a chronic condition in which the blood glucose (or blood sugar) level in a person becomes high either because of inadequate production of insulin in the body or body cells not responding to insulin or both. The blood glucose level in our body is usually controlled by insulin, which is a hormone produced by pancreas. Insulin helps in lowering blood sugar level. Type 2 Diabetes is more common than Type 1 Diabetes. In this type of diabetes, the insulin production in the body decreases over time as pancreas stops producing it or produce less of it. Due to lack of insulin, glucose could not get into our body cells to be used as energy. Symptoms of Diabetes Many people who have diabetes are unaware of the problem they have. Reason for this is during earlier phase, these symptoms seem to be harmless; however the chances are these could result in serious complications later on.
